Southern New Mexico
Spring is arguably the best time of year to experience all southern New Mexico has to offer. Outdoor adventures abound in the region's many state parks, there’s much to learn in numerous scientific attractions, and communities from Socorro and Deming to Carlsbad and Hobbs are ready for a visit. Special events, festivals, and family-friendly destinations – the Land of Enchantment is a premier destination this season.
Las Cruces visitors can enjoy all the colors of spring alongside the colorful works of local artists at the 6th Annual Las Cruces Arts Fair. Held March 18th through 20th at the Las Cruces Convention Center, the festival draws big crowds with everything from a silent auction to artist demonstrations, displays, and much more. The fun begins at 5 p.m. on the first evening, and doors open at 10 a.m. the next two days. All events are at the Las Cruces Convention Center.
Cirque Zuma Zuma brings all the excitement of the circus and more to Socorro on April 15th. This isn’t just any circus – it’s part African circus, part Cirque de Soleil, and part Harlem Globetrotters, with a few more things thrown in for good measure. Bring the whole family down to the Macey Center at 7:30 p.m. to be a part of the action.
Visitors to southern New Mexico may be surprised to learn the region is home to countless vineyards and wineries. Shop and sample a variety of locally produced wines, find the perfect food pairings, and enjoy live music and entertainment at the 2016 Southern New Mexico Wine Festival – wineries from all across New Mexico gather at the Southern NM State Fairgrounds in Las Cruces. The corks are unscrewed at noon each day, May 28th through 30th.
Thirsty in Roswell? Look to the 2016 Roswell Beer Festival on April 30th. The Historic Roswell Town Square hosts an afternoon of live music, food vendors, and, of course, plenty of delicious craft beers to try. Taps start flowing at noon.
The truth is out there and Roswell visitors can study the evidence first hand at the International UFO Museum & Research Center. Permanent exhibits feature information on crop circles, Area 51, and the infamous “Roswell Incident,” and a variety of special events line the calendar all year. Don’t miss the 2016 Official Roswell, New Mexico UFO Alien Festival, June 30th through July 3rd. It’s four days of guest speakers, authors, live entertainment, a costume contest, a pet costume contest, parade, family-friendly activities and more.
